Job Title: Capacity Building Specialist

Job Status: Full-time

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Capacity-Building Specialist is responsible for developing quality resources, programming, networking, and skill-building opportunities for Arts and Culture NNAAC member organizations, providing customized assistance that responds to individual member requests. This position directly impacts ACCESS’ mission by growing our national reach and playing a leadership role in improving the standing of the national Arab American community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, assist and implement opportunities for Arts and Culture to be actively engaged with NNAAC and its members through tailored programming, webinars, sub-committees, remote and in-person networking and special initiatives and/or projects
  • Understand the vision, mission, programs, strategies, and capacity needs of Arts and Culture with NNAAC members and identify solutions
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with NNAAC members on Arts and Culture
  • Respond to requests from members and provide them with timely and relevant information
  • Co-facilitate the NNAAC Arts and Culture sub-committee and develop annual curriculums including identifying guest speakers and developing relevant meeting topics
  • Provide designed support for the members to meet their needs through capacity building, funding, and other resources based on the need
  • Function as a liaison and create connections between Arts and Culture, NNAAC members, ACCESS departments, the Arab American National Museum and other national partner organizations
  • Create and discover opportunities for collaboration between Arts and Culture, NNAAC members and with external Arts and Culture partners, and work with NNAAC members to carry out collaborations
  • In conjunction with the Policy team, identify areas for advocacy for Arab American non-profits
  • Create special tracks and programming, as well as assist with the planning, for Arts and Culture members at annual events including convenings, advocacy events, and online programming
  • Identify funding opportunities specific to Arts and Culture, as well as funding opportunities for NNAAC to utilize to regrant to Arts and Culture initiatives
  • Assist with facilitating the annual Capacity-Building Grant
  • Identify potential new Arts and Culture committee and personnel members
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Intermediate to advanced concepts, practices and procedures in non-profit management, philanthropy, and capacity-building, particularly in non-profits in the Arts and Culture sector
  • Grant writing and its process
  • Processes, rules and regulations of various services and funding agencies surrounding the eligibility and maintenance of the services being received

Skill in:

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives
  • Inspire confidence and passion in external audiences to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Be an innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas, and problems are addressed
  • Objectively gather information, identify linkages and trends, and apply findings to assignments
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Manage difficult conversations with stakeholders and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Interpret, speak, and write in Arabic, Spanish or other native language of the predominant service population is preferred
  • Maintain confidentiality of agency and client information

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree
  • Required Disciplines:
    • Social Sciences, Non-profit Management, Art, Business, Public Administration, or related field

  • At least 3 years of experience working in a nonprofit organization, with specific experience in training, coordination, event planning, relationship building with community stakeholders and capacity-building consulting
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources

Working Conditions:

Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required

Travel Required: Local, in-state, and national, up to 20-50%

Working Environment: Climate controlled office
